Devoted to Perfection: The Making of Great Lengths Extensions
We take you behind the velvet ropes to experience the handcrafted artistry that goes into making Great Lengths Extensions.
Recently, top Great Lengths Ambassadors traveled to Nepi, Italy, to experience firsthand the meticulous handcrafted process of making Great Lengths extensions.
It all begins with an act of devotion. Each year, thousands of Indian women sacrifice their long hair at temples across the country as a spiritual offering—acts of gratitude, faith and humility. From these sacred spaces, Great Lengths purchases the donated hair through a transparent and ethical process, helping fund the temples’ charitable works and community programs.

From that moment forward, each lock is meticulously traced, its journey carefully documented to ensure full accountability and respect for its origins. The hair then travels across the globe to Nepi, Italy, a small town north of Rome, where devoted scientists and artisans work side by side in a place that feels more atelier than factory. Here, they transform these humble offerings into what many stylists consider the world’s most luxurious extensions.
“It’s magical to see how much it takes to make Great Lengths Extensions. You realize this is true luxury hair.”

Trusting the Process
“We are obsessed with the quality of our hair,” says Vito Pollina, CEO of Great Lengths, who recently led top Great Lengths Ambassadors on a tour of the factory. “We pay attention to each and every detail of the process.” That obsession shows.
From the outset, perfection is the goal, and each step—more than 40 of them, says Great Lengths COO Marco Matiacci—is designed to ensure that outcome.
Great Lengths COO Marco Matiacci shows a bundle of hair that has undergone the depigmentation process and is ready for the coloring phase.
First, strands from each bundle of hair are tested for elasticity, purity and integrity, ensuring that the cuticle remains intact and that the hair has never been chemically treated. Only then does the true artisanal work unfold. Hair is sewn onto muslin cloth in order to maintain root-to-end alignment and then undergoes the depigmentation process, a patented osmosis method that gently removes the hair’s natural color without bleach or ammonia derivatives.
Crafting the Color
Riawna Capri inspects the hand-applied color process.
The coloring phase is equally thoughtful. Great Lengths uses its own proprietary textile dyes, creating color-fast results that shimmer with multidimensional depth. "To finalize the final color," says Matiacci, "the blending department—using a special manual technique—is able to mix and blend several shades to create the three-dimensional color that is the special feature of the Great Lengths color chart."

The final color combines several different hues to create a three-dimensional blend, a hallmark of Great Lengths extensions.
Every bundle then is double-drawn by hand, ensuring no shorter pieces interrupt the seamless fall of the finished hair and it maintains the same volume and density from root to tip. In the machine department, over 30 artisans work together to transform these carefully curated strands into the final product that stylists around the world trust.
Great Lengths hair is all Remy, which means it is double drawn by hand to ensure all strands run from root to tip.
The Hairdressers' Point of View
The quality and ethics behind Great Lengths are of paramount importance to the Ambassadors.
For Danielle Keasling, Executive Artistic Director of Great Lengths, the craftsmanship is what sets the brand and its extensions apart. "It's just so interesting how much handcrafted work goes into each strand of hair," she says. "It's important for people to look a little deeper into where their hair is actually coming from. You will not be sorry—but be careful: you will be hooked."
Great Length's meticulous crafting process results in extensions that are multidimensional, seamless and sheer perfection.
Fellow ambassador Dimitris Giannetos agrees, saying, "It was magical seeing in person how much work it takes. You realize this is true luxury hair." Ambassador Naomi Panizza echoes that sentiment with conviction: "If you're someone that's considering Great Lengths, do it. You won't find a more ethical product. The service, everything about Great Lengths is 100% professional."

That ethical transparency is equally important to celebrity stylists Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri, who note, "The quality is up there as well, but the ethicality is so important to us—to know exactly where each bundle comes from."
"It was an amazing day for us," Matiacci says, reflecting on the recent ambassador visit. "An honor to have the chance to speak with them, to have them visiting Great Lengths. Great Lengths is also their house."
